Solomiia Baranets: “Law is not a profession. It is a way of thinking”

This is the approach that characterises the professional path of Solomiia Baranets, a Ukrainian lawyer who continued her career in the UK and adapted her Ukrainian professional experience to another legal system.
The choice of the legal profession, according to Solomiia, was almost natural. Even in childhood, injustice aroused the desire to protect those whose rights were violated. Later, this inner sense of justice received a professional basis – studies at the Yaroslav the Wise National Law University and many years of experience in the prosecutor’s office.
The prosecutor’s office became an important school of professional responsibility. Law, facts, evidence and balanced decisions – these are the principles that shaped the attitude to law as a system where professional competence is inseparably linked with responsibility for the result.
2022 was a new starting point.
Moving to the UK meant a professional start in a new environment: a different legal system, different standards and a different professional culture. Despite this, Solomiia consistently went through the adaptation journey and continued her legal practice. She currently works as a Trainee Solicitor at J. Preedy Solicitors, where her professional interests include Business Law and Contracts, Sports Law and Fashion Law.
These areas are particularly indicative for modern legal practice. Here, law directly intersects with business, contractual relations, reputation, intellectual assets and international interaction.
