Андрій ТИМОШЕНКО — висококваліфікований лікар-уролог, онкохірург і науковий співробітник, визнаний «Лікарем року» за версією телеканалу 1+1. Він не лише допомагає пацієнтам, а й змінює підходи до лікування в Україні.

— Пане Андрію, Ви стали «Лікарем року» за версією 1+1. Що для Вас означає це визнання, і як воно вплинуло на Вашу професійну діяльність?
— Це дуже приємно, що суспільство відзначає мою роботу. Однак усі мої здобутки — це заслуга моїх керівників, колег та медичного персоналу Національного інституту раку й Інституту експериментальної патології, онкології та радіобіології імені Р. Є. Кавецького. Без їхньої підтримки та відданої праці не було б жодних відзнак. Таке визнання надихає на нові досягнення.
— Чому Ви обрали саме урологію та онкохірургію? Чи був якийсь конкретний випадок або людина, яка надихнула Вас на цей шлях?
— Усе почалося ще в дитинстві. Коли мені виповнився рік, мій тато сказав, що я буду науковцем в урологічній галузі. І, дивним чином, так і сталося. Завдяки підтримці моїх батьків і сестри я продовжую свій шлях для покращення здоров’я наших пацієнтів.
— Лікарі щодня стикаються з викликами та емоційно складними ситуаціями. Як Вам вдається зберігати баланс між професійним і особистим життям?
— Лікарі часто стикаються з великими емоційними труднощами, вигоранням і навіть втратою мотивації. Ми живемо в часи війни, і зараз, як ніколи, важливо працювати заради наших військових і цивільних людей. Адже ми, лікарі, — такі самі люди, як і всі, і для нас особисте життя та відпочинок відіграють важливу роль у відновленні та збереженні емоційного стану.
— Які найсучасніші методи лікування урологічних онкозахворювань сьогодні впроваджуються в Україні? Чи є у Вас власні унікальні напрацювання?
— Я працюю у відділі пластичної та реконструктивної онкоурології Національного інституту раку, який є одним із провідних в Україні та одним із найсильніших у Європі, враховуючи наші матеріальні можливості. Під керівництвом академіка, професора Едуарда Олександровича Стаховського в Україні вперше було створено новий сечовий міхур після його видалення у пацієнта з раковим ураженням, а також проведено перше ендоскопічне втручання (ТУР) та інші важливі досягнення. Ми, як послідовники школи Віктора Степановича Карпенка, продовжуємо розробляти та впроваджувати нові методики в урологічну й онкологічну хірургію України та Європи.
Що стосується моїх особистих досягнень, то я особливо пишаюся своєю дисертаційною роботою, виконаною під керівництвом академіка, професора Василя Федоровича Чехуна. Вона присвячена ранній діагностиці метастазів раку простати на генетичному рівні. Це дослідження значно покращило якість і тривалість життя пацієнтів із цією недугою. Ми розробили новий алгоритм обстеження, а згодом і лікування метастатичного раку простати, що дало вражаючі практичні результати.
— Що Вас найбільше надихає у Вашій професії? Які поради Ви дали б молодим лікарям, які тільки починають свою кар’єру?
— Мене надихають мої колеги — як досвідчені, так і молоді фахівці. Я завжди вчився у перших, а другі мотивують мене ставати ще кращим. Молодим лікарям я б порадив завжди тримати руку на пульсі науки, постійно оновлювати свої знання і ніколи не зупинятися на досягнутому. Я щодня працюю над тим, щоб ставати кращим не лише як професіонал, а й як людина.

Andrii Tymoshenko – the Doctor of the Year who saves lives and gives new hopes

Аndrii TYMOSHENKO is a highly qualified urologist, oncologist and researcher who has been recognised as the “Doctor of the Year” by 1+1. He not only helps patients, but also changes approaches to treatment in Ukraine.

• Mr. Andrii, you have been named Doctor of the Year by 1+1 TV channel. What does this recognition mean to you, and how has it influenced your professional activities?
• It is very pleasant that society recognises my work. However, all my merits are the merits of my supervisors, colleagues and medical staff at the National Cancer Institute and the R. E. Kavetskii Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology. Without their support and fruitful work, there would be no any awards. Recognition inspires new achievements.
• Why did you choose urology and oncological surgery? Was there a particular case or person who inspired you to take this path?
• It all started in my childhood. When I was one year old, my dad said that I would be a scientist in the urology field. And, miraculously, it happened. With the support of my parents and sister, I continue my journey to improve the health of our patients.
• Doctors face challenges and emotionally difficult situations every day. How do you manage to maintain a balance between your professional and personal life?
• Doctors often face great emotional difficulties, burnout and even lack of motivation. We are living in a time of war, and it is more important than ever to work for our military and civilians. After all, we, doctors, are people like everyone else, and for us, personal life and rest are important for restoring and maintaining our emotional state.
• What are the most modern methods of treating urological oncological diseases being implemented in Ukraine today, and do you have any unique developments of your own?
• I work in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Oncourology at the National Cancer Institute, which is one of the leading in Ukraine and one of the strongest in Europe, given our material capabilities. Under the leadership of Academician, Professor Eduard Stakhovskii, a new bladder was created in Ukraine for the first time after its removal from a patient with cancer, as well as the first endoscopic surgery (TUR) and other important achievements. We, as followers of Viktor Karpenko’s school, continue to develop and implement new techniques in urological and oncological surgery in Ukraine and Europe.
  As for my personal achievements, I am particularly proud of my dissertation work, which was carried out under the supervision of Academician, Professor Vasyl Chekhun. It is dedicated to the early diagnosis of prostate cancer metastases at the genetic level. This research has significantly improved the quality and life expectancy of patients with this disease. We have developed a new algorithm for the examination and afterward also for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, which has yielded impressive practical results.
• What inspires you the most in your profession and what advice would you give to young doctors who are just starting their careers?
• I am inspired by my colleagues – both experienced and young professionals. I have always learned from the former, and the latter motivate me to become even better. I would advise young doctors to always keep their finger on the pulse of science, constantly update their knowledge and not stop at what has been achieved. I work every day to become better not only as a professional, but also as a person.
