Oksana Kit: A strength that can protect life
Оksana Kit is a psychologist and sexologist who has combined professional skills with deep personal transformation.
— Oksana, good afternoon! It is nice to meet you and have the opportunity to introduce your story to readers. What formed your inner support?
— For me, inner strength is not about steel in character. It is the ability to withstand one’s own vulnerability and move on, even when it is scary or painful. I worked as a customs broker for a long time. But real confidence came when I changed my profession and went into psychotherapy. I have been in private practice for three years now. Every newly rekindled life in my office, every couple who regained their intimacy, strengthens my confidence better than any theories.
— A modern woman combines work, family, caring for others, and her own aspirations. How do you manage to maintain balance?
— For me, inner balance is not perfect peace. It’s like riding a motorcycle: you notice a skid in time and turn the steering wheel. The separation of life and work helps. In the office, I am fully involved in the client’s story, and after the session I take off the costume of the “omnipotent therapist”. At home, I allow myself to be just a human being: to get tired, ask for help, not have time to do everything. I am grounded by routine and the right not to be perfect.
— When there is a lot of uncertainty around, what do you rely on to move forward?
— I rely on my values, my professional community, my colleagues, my supervisor, and my therapy. I am kept by the meaning. Psychology and sexology are about saving relationships, the opportunity to help people hear and feel each other again.
— For you, what is the true strength of a Ukrainian woman revealing in?
— In the colossal emotional depth – the ability to simultaneously contain pain and a mad thirst for life. We have not become callous. Despite anxieties, fears and losses, a Ukrainian woman finds the resource to laugh, hug, create comfort, and love. She can cry at night, and in the morning buy flowers and wear a beautiful dress, because life goes on. We are held by sensitivity, empathy, roots and authenticity. We continue to cherish life where others would give up.
— What are you striving for next and what would you like to say to women who are currently going through a particularly difficult time?
— In September 2025, I experienced the most difficult personal loss – my husband died in the war. My priority is working with military personnel, veterans and their families. I want to help couples overcome emotional alienation, work with sexual dysfunctions caused by concussions or severe PTSD, and rebuild trust through physicality.
I want to say to women: you are not obliged to be strong. Allow yourself to cry when it hurts and ask for help. Our strength is not in our iron character, but in the fact that we know how to keep the light within ourselves. Even when everything seems to be destroyed, a grain of life remains inside. Give yourself time. Do not be afraid to live and be happy again. Step by step.
