Як впливає війна на творчість, а творчість — на життя під час війни? Чи тільки виживати може людина в чужій країні? Як ми знаходимо своє призначення у житті? Про це ми спілкуємось з дизайнеркою, акторкою та волонтеркою — Юлією АРЛЮКОВОЮ.
— Добрий день, пані Юліє! Дуже приємно поспілкуватися з Вами на сторінках нашого журналу. Розкажіть, будь ласка, як повномасштабне вторгнення вплинуло на Вашу творчість?
— Я сама із Херсона. Бути дизайнером одягу мріяла з дитинства. І саме так сталось, що розквіт моєї професійної діяльності прийшовся на декілька останніх років перед повномасштабним вторгненням.
Я зареєструвала свій дизайнерський бренд – YULANA. Тоді я створила багато цікавих колекцій, двічі брала участь у Fashion Week Odessa, модних показах у столиці, у міжнародних фестивалях, де була фіналісткою, а також у конкурсах краси. Було багато чого заплановано — та війна все зруйнувала.
До повномасштабного вторгнення знялася у фільмі «Редакція» Там я познайомилася з надзвичайною людиною Остапенко Валерієм Валерійовичем, який надихнув мене піти в акторки.
Під час окупації я разом з сином-підлітком стали волонтерами Червоного Хреста України. Це був цікавий, та водночас важкий і небезпечний досвід.
У нас було декілька прихистків до того, як опинилися в Києві. Тут я влаштувалася на роботу на швейне підприємство в день, а ввечері ходила на акторські курси при кіностудії FILM.UA. Згодом кіностудія стала для мене та дітей домівкою. На курсах я знайшла гарних друзів, з якими спілкуюся і досі.
За час перебування в столиці я провела два благодійні заходи. Перший — «Сміх і Гріх» — вечірка для військових і охочих поговорити про інтимні кумедні ситуації у стосунках між чоловіками та жінками. Цілю було зібрати кошти для певного військового підрозділу.
Другий — «Подаруй свято дитині в окупації» — благодійний концерт у Будинку актора, де ми збирали кошти для дітей, які були в окупації. Підготовка до концерту була дуже напруженою. За три дні до концерту в Києві був повний блекаут, і ми готувалися до того, що світла не буде в день заходу. Найголовніше те, що всі, хто мав брати участь у заході, не відмовилися, а готувалися. У день заходу світло дали ! І тоді ми зрозуміли, що за нами перемога!
— Як складається Ваше життя та праця зараз?
— Уже два з половиною роки я живу далеко від України — в Ірландії. Дизайнерську діяльність поки що довелося пригальмувати, бо в Ірландії немає такого розвитку фешн-індустрії. Тож я занурилася у навчання. Закінчила онлайн-курси з кінопродюсування, англійської мови, здобула ступінь магістра в ХНТУ.
Постійні депресивні стани не давали спокійно жити, щоночі снилася домівка. Тільки цієї весни більш-менш почала усвідомлювати, де я зараз.
Перед новим роком мене та мою доньку запросила ірландська режисерка Leagh Egan взяти участь у зйомках короткометражного фільму «Shelter». Це стрічка про початок повномасштабного вторгнення в Україні, над якою працювала ірландська команда разом з українськими акторами. Прем’єра фільму відбудеться 11 липня 2025 року у місті Galway на найпрестижнішому кінофестивалі Ірландії. Участь у зйомках врятувала мене від розпачу, надихнула на нові творчі шляхи.
— Чи плануєте Ви повернутись до фешн-індустрії після Перемоги?
— Дуже хочу і сподіваюсь на це!
— Що б Ви хотіли сказати українцям, нашим читачам?
— Я дуже хочу, щоб кожен з нас зрозумів і відчув — як чудово бути українцем, виробляти українські продукти, здобувати українську освіту, нести світові українську культуру. Бо зараз, коли є можливість порівнювати — розумієш наскільки в нас все неймовірно, гарно, круто, якісно, з душею. І ще я зрозуміла: творчість — це саме те, що повертає сенс життю. Зараз я для себе обрала місію — знайомити світ з Україною. Бо Україна — це дійсно круто!
Хочу подякувати тим людям, які допомогли мені виїхати з окупації та підтримували увесь час: Вікторії Кобець, Катерині Щербак, Мар’яні Стороженко, Сергію Арлюкову, Оксані Обертинській, Владиславу Савченку, власниці салону «Люба перукарня» Наталі з міста Бровари, Остапенку Валерію Валерійовичу, Тетяні Копитіній, Ларисі Коваленко, а також неймовірна подяка моїм надзвичайним дітям Костянтину та Аполлінарії Арлюковим. Є ще кілька людей, чиї імена я не можу назвати з міркувань безпеки, але вони — в моєму серці.

YULIIA ARLIUKOVA: “UKRAINE IS COOL!”
How does war affect creativity, and creativity affects life during war? Can a person only survive in a foreign country? How do we find our purpose in life? We are talking about this with designer, actress and volunteer Yuliia Arliukova.
— Good afternoon, Mrs. Yulia! It is a pleasure to talk to you on the pages of our magazine. Could you please tell us how the full-scale invasion has affected your work?
— I myself am from Kherson. I have dreamed of being a fashion designer since childhood. And it so happened that the heyday of my professional activity fell on the last few years before the full-scale invasion.
I registered my designer brand – YULANA. Then I created many interesting collections, twice participated in Fashion Week Odesa, fashion shows in the capital, in international festivals, where I was a finalist, and also in beauty contests. There was a lot planned – but the war destroyed everything.
Before the full-scale invasion, I starred in the film “Editorial Office”. There I met an extraordinary person, Valerii Ostapenko, who inspired me to become an actress.
During the occupation, my teenage son and I became volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross. It was an interesting, but at the same time difficult and dangerous experience.
We had several shelters before we ended up in Kyiv. Here I got a job at a sewing factory during the day, and in the evening I went to acting courses at the FILM.UA film studio. Later, the film studio became a home for me and the children. During the courses, I found good friends with whom I still communicate.
During my stay in the capital, I held two charity events. The first was “Laughter and Sin” — a party for the military and those who wanted to talk about intimate funny situations in relationships between men and women. The goal was to raise funds for a certain military unit.
The second was “Give a holiday to a child under occupation” — a charity concert at the Actor’s House, where we raised funds for children who were under occupation. Preparations for the concert were very intense. Three days before the concert, there was a complete blackout in Kyiv, and we were preparing for the fact that there would be no electricity on the day of the event. The most important thing is that everyone who was supposed to participate in the event did not refuse, but prepared. On the day of the event, the lights were turned on! And then we realized that victory was ours!
— How are your life and work going now?
— For two and a half years now I have been living far away from Ukraine – in Ireland. I had to put my design work on hold for now, because the fashion industry in Ireland is not as developed. So I plunged into my studies. I completed online courses in film production, English, and got my master’s degree at KNTU.
Constant depressive states did not allow me to live peacefully, every night I dreamed of home. Only this spring did I more or less start to realise where I am now.
Before the New Year, my daughter and I were invited by the Irish director Leagh Egan to take part in the filming of a short film called Shelter. This is a film about the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which was created by an Irish team together with Ukrainian actors. The film will be premiered on 11 July 2025 in Galway at the most prestigious film festival in Ireland. Participation in the filming saved me from despair and inspired me to find new creative ways.
— Do you plan to return to the fashion industry after the Victory?
— I really want to and hope for it!
— What would you like to say to Ukrainians, our readers?
— I really want each of us to understand and feel how wonderful it is to be a Ukrainian, to produce Ukrainian products, to receive Ukrainian education, to bring Ukrainian culture to the world. Because now, when you have the opportunity to compare, you realise how incredible, beautiful, cool, high-quality, and soulful everything is. I also realised that creativity is what gives meaning to life. Now I have chosen a mission to introduce Ukraine to the world. Because Ukraine is really cool!
